Enviroment & Technology Foundationes-ESMimesis.jasd2805-6337El levantamiento arquitectónico del patrimonio construido. Un instrumento preciso de la realidad
https://revistamimesis.environmenttechnologyfoundation.org/index.php/envitech/article/view/40

Nelson Melero Lazo

https://revistamimesis.environmenttechnologyfoundation.org/index.php/envitech/article/view/41

The process of digitisation of the artistic and cultural heritage has enriched the possibilities
of representation and communication of architecture, increasing the modes of reproduction,
fruition as well as the possibilities of protection and preservation. The study of this research
draws attention on the continuous progress of technology in the cultural fi eld and highlights
the important collaboration that exists between digital and analog representation, identifying,
with this synergy, a virtuous path that allows, through the use of different methodologies, to
be able to know and analyze the historical phases of a building. In particular, the attention
was directed to the Caltanissetta Centrale station, a signifi cant junction of the Sicilian railway
network both for the connection of the island and for the sulfur trade. With its late modernism,
the station under study is part of the story of Art Nouveau stations in Sicily, and it becomes a
witness to economic and social changes in the region, thus making itself an asset to be protected
and disseminated. Through the study of iconographic documents, historical photos, and graphic
analysis it was possible to retrace, through a backward process from the laser scanning survey to
the study of photographic restitution, the main historical phases that characterised the evolution
and extension of the factory. Through such 3D graphic representations, it was also possible to
reproduce the characteristics of the building and highlight the changes that occurred over time
and the evident divergences that existed between the building and the original design idea.
Sara MorenaLaura Barrale

https://revistamimesis.environmenttechnologyfoundation.org/index.php/envitech/article/view/43

https://revistamimesis.environmenttechnologyfoundation.org/index.php/envitech/article/view/42

This paper discusses methodological aspects by illustrating the fi rst products of a research
project developed as part of a collaboration agreement between the DICAr - Department
of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia and the enterprise GEA
s.r.l. Archaeology, for the documentation of the archaeological excavations in the former Santa
Margherita Institute in Pavia (Italy). The activities, carried out by the experimental laboratories
DAda-LAB and PLAY, regarded the documentation of the archaeological evidences, dating
back to the 4th century AD, brought to light by the interventions of conversion and remodelling
of the historical and architectural complex. The need to produce documentation apparatus to
support the excavation activities is boosted by the fragility of the archaeological site, apparently
meant to disappear to allow space for the construction of an underground car park.
The research aims to develop a methodology for the organisation of the data acquired in the
multiple excavation campaigns, the production of databases useful to archaeologists for the
chronological interpretation of the excavation, the detection of archaeological emergencies and
the development of an information system that combines models and databases. Since March
2022, data acquisition campaigns have been undertaken to progressively survey the phases of
excavations. Data sheets were then developed for stratigraphic units and deposit units, and
an effective GIS system was developed to represent the complex nature of the site by making
clear the relationships between the stratigraphic units. The fi rst results of the research outline a
methodological process that leads to the development of a digital ‘container’ in which it becomes
possible to include the data collected during the campaign by reducing the time gap between
acquisition, recording, processing and synthesis of information.
Francesca PicchioFrancesca GalassoGiulia Porcheddu

https://revistamimesis.environmenttechnologyfoundation.org/index.php/envitech/article/view/44

This research aims to give an analysis and assessment through the extraction of metric
information from historical images and to experiment with its potentialities in the heritage fi eld
with the aim of valorising historical iconographical documentation. In particular the paper
deals with photogrammetry applied to historical images. A classifi cation and a state of the art
of historical archives material considering their possible use in metric documentation and thus
suitable for photogrammetry is performed. A photogrammetric workfl ow is proposed to process
historical images and the maximum metric quality level reachable by the photogrammetric
processing is investigated. Two case studies in Paris were chosen: the UNESCO Heritage
Tour Saint Jacques and the pavilions of Les Halles of the architect Victor Baltard. The two
studies represent different situations of heritage because the tower was transformed over time
but still exists and the pavilions were destroyed in 1971. Thus, it is possible to compare the
different results obtained from the implementation of the workfl ow to the two case studies.
Francesca Condorelli
